1983 Ferrari 126C3

Rene Arnoux arrived at Ferrari eager to prove himself, after four years at Renault in which he had racked up 14 pole positions but only four wins, usually because of the French cars’ lamentable reliability record. Teammate Patrick Tambay held the upper hand in the first half of the 1983 season, when they were driving the 126C2B, but after Arnoux won the Canadian GP, Tambay’s luck went south, and Arnoux also claimed victories at Hockenheim and Zandvoort (pictured), backing these up with a couple of runner-up finishes. He went to the finale in South Africa with an outside shot at the World Championship, but retired with engine failure. However, he and Tambay had earned Ferrari the Constructors’ Championship – Ferrari’s last until 1999.
