Elliott Forbes-Robinson won in most of the classic North American series – Formula Atlantic, Can-Am, Trans-Am, IMSA, American Le Mans, and Grand-Am, displaying the kind of versatility the probably could still exist today but just doesn’t have a chance to bloom and flourish.
Forbes-Robinson won three SCCA Runoffs titles, he twice won the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with Dyson Racing, and clinched two major championships – one in a Trans-Am Pontiac Firebird, one on board a Riley & Scott prototype in IMSA. But rightly or not, EFR is best remembered for being able to drop into any type of car and contend for victory. In our illustration, he is shown in the Newman-Freeman Racing Can-Am car, in which he scored three wins across 1978 and ’79.
