You could probably trace the Ford vs. Chevrolet rivalry all the way back to 1911, when upstarts Louis Chevrolet, Arthur Chevrolet and William Durant decided to take on the eight-year-old company founded by Henry Ford. And over a century later, these iconic brands are still at it, in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The Mustang is marketed as a muscle car, the Corvette as a sports car, but make no mistake, on track in the GT Daytona class, this is a straight-up battle for supremacy. Our illustration celebrates Ford’s return to the class in 2024 with the Multimatic Motorsports-engineered Mustang GT3 to tackle the Corvette Z06 GT3.R. In this illustration, the ’Vette is the No. 3 as raced by Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, with Daniel Juncadella assisting in endurance races, while the No. 65 ’Stang is the car of Joey Hand, Dirk Muller and – in enduros – Frederic Vervisch.
