The Tyrrell 011 had proven a winner in the last Formula 1 race of 1982, Michele Alboreto capturing victory in Caesar’s Palace parking lot. With F1’s return to flat-bottomed cars for ’83, it might have been assumed that the power of the turbocharged cars would take them beyond the reach of Cosworth-powered cars such as the Tyrrell, but the ‘B’-spec 011 was an effective machine, and in Alboreto’s hands it won the Detroit GP. This would prove to be the 155th and final Grand Prix victory for the Cosworth DFV, which had made its debut some 16 years earlier, and sadly it would prove the last win for the Tyrrell team. RACER’s in-house artist Paul Laguette jumped at the chance to draw such a significant car, especially because it is one of his favorites.
